ESPINDOLA BRACE LEADS RSL PAST GALAXY Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

The LA Galaxy came out firing early on in Saturday night's Western Conference showdown vs. Real Salt Lake, and when Robbie Keane unleashed a beautiful left- footed volley in the 17th minute to give the Galaxy a 1-0 lead, RSL looked like they would be in danger of being routed. Then Fabian Espindola stepped up and punished the Galaxy yet again. The Argentine striker finished off chances in the 25th and 28th minutes to give RSL the lead, and Real Salt Lake's defense made the goals stand up as the visitors recorded a 2-1 victory at Home Depot Center. The win pushed RSL five points clear of the Galaxy in the race for second place in the Western Conference. The loss leaves the Galaxy in jeopardy of falling into fourth place, behind the Seattle Sounders, who trail the Galaxy by one point with two games in hand. The Sounders play the Portland Timbers on Sunday. Espindola has made a habit of punishing the Galaxy in recent years, and Saturday marked the fifth straight regular season match that he recorded a goal or assist against LA. He finished off a quality passing sequence between Javier Morales and Alvaro Saborio for his first goal of the night, then headed home a Morales cross just three minutes later to give Real Salt Lake the lead. The Galaxy held the edge in possession and in overall shots on goal, but could not add to Keane's first-half striker in the second half, with RSL defenders doing an excellent job of blocking a plethora of Galaxy shots in the penalty area. The Galaxy lost Landon Donovan to a knee injury in the 85th minute when he landed awkwardly after a shot from the left flank. He left the match and after the match said he would have his knee evaluated to determine if the injury would keep him from joining the U.S. national team for World Cup qualifying training camp in Miami next week. RSL has won three in a row and will look to secure second place in the East with a win against Seattle on Oct. 17th. The Galaxy face a daunting final stretch, with a date against first-place San Jose on Oct. 21st before their regular season finale against Seattle on Oct. 28th. A match that could decide which team finished in third place, and which team has to endure the wild card round.

A CLOSER LOOK AT KLINSMANN’S MIDFIELD OPTIONS VS. ANTIGUA & BARBUDA Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

Going into a crucial World Cup qualifier without your two best options at left back might seem like something to be extremely worried about, and U.S. Men’s National Team fans certainly are beginning to worry about Jurgen Klinsmann’s dwindling options at a weak position. But the reality is a weak left back isn’ t likely to matter against lowly Antigua & Barbuda, cleats for soccer a team that is comprised mostly of players plying their trade for USL Pro side Antigua Barracuda FC. No, the area of the field where Klinsmann should really be focusing on heading into this Friday’s match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is the midfield. The players he deploys there will ultimately decide how successful the American attack is and if the U.S. take home three big points heading into their final third round qualifier against Guatemala. The first thing Klinsmann has to decide is whether he wants to deploy a three-man midfield or four-man midfield. Klinsmann has alternated between the two throughout his tenure, but in the U.S. team’s most recent game, a 1-0 win over Jamaica in September, Klinsmann chose to play four midfielders and the results were extremely positive. The Americans dominated possession in that match, passing the ball around sharply against a Jamaica team that was content to sit back and look for counterattacks. The U.S. only scored once in the match, but created a bevy of chances. If Antigua & Barbuda, who are playing for their World Cup lives, intend to sit back and throw bodies behind the ball as Klinsmann has said he expects, then the U.S. should once again go with a four-man midfield. soccer cleats on sale No, there are no real outside midfielders on the roster (Landon Donovan and Brek Shea have been ruled out with injuries), but that was also the case against the Reggae Boyz last month and the U.S. still dominated possession for large stretches. Constructing the U.S. midfield begins with the defensive anchor, the No. 6. Danny Williams played that role excellently against Jamaica, and he is the front -runner to handle that role again. With Williams’ range and defensive bite helping the back four snuff out Antigua & Barbuda counters, the U.S. should be able to limit the hosts to few chances and that would allow for more possession. That’s where Michael Bradley steps in. Klinsmann has stated previously that he sees Bradley and Jones more as No. 8s, or central midfielders with more advanced, attacking responsibilities, and Bradley should fill in now that he has recovered from the injury that sidelined him from September’s qualifiers. It is no secret that Bradley can shoot from distance and make late runs into the penalty area. Both those attributes could come in handy against Antigua & Barbuda.

Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

There is just no stopping Jozy Altidore at the club level right now and Roda JC Kerkrade were the latest team to find that out. Altidore delivered what is sure to be a prime candidate for top performance of the Americans Abroad season, scoring a hat-trick and assisting on another goal in a dominant performance in AZ Alkmaar's 4-0 thrashing of Roda on Sunday. soccer shoes on sale Altidore's hat-trick was his first at the club level and second in his career (he scored three goals for the U.S. men's national team in a World Cup qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago in 2009), and it gave him seven goals in five league games this season. While Altidore's finishing may have been on display in the match, Tiempo Brasileiro so too were his improved combination play and timely runs. The 22-year-old striker linked up with his teammates well, paving the way for a couple of goals, and he also made good runs to put himself into dangerous positions. Jose Torres also netted this weekend, scoring the winner in Pachuca's 3-2 victory over Morelia on Friday. The goal, which came off a free kick from a narrow angle on the right flank, Tiempo Legend gave Pachuca just their second win this season and it was Torres' first tally in league play since the 2010 Clausura campaign. Clint Dempsey did not find the back of the net, but he did make his Tottenham Hotspur debut on Sunday. Dempsey came off the bench to replace Gareth Bale and he played 12 minutes en route to helping the Spurs close out their 3-1 win against Reading.

NASL Week 24: A Look Back Alerter l'administrateur Recommander à un ami Lien de l'article

The San Antonio Scorpions returned home to their faithful fans for the first time in nearly a month, but the Carolina RailHawks crashed the party by pulling off the upset. The RailHawks stunned the league-leading Scorpions, 2-1, during the penultimate week of the NASL regular season on Saturday courtesy of a second-half goal from Ty Shipalane at Heroes Stadium on Sunday night. Former U.S. Under-23 men's national team centerback Gale Agbossoumonde gave the RailHawks the lead just before halftime, but Pablo Campos pulled San Antonio level in the 63rd minute with his 19th goal of the season. That was as close as the hosts came to a result in front of their 7,701 fans, as Carolina took a permanent lead six minutes later through Shipalane's finish. The win put the RailHawks three points ahead of the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL standings, meaning they would have the right to host a quarterfinal playoff match should they finish the regular season there.
